Chapter 1
Overview of JAMS Installation

This chapter provides a general overview of the steps involved in installing and configuring JAMS in a Windows environment.

JAMS consists of a number of components. The components that you choose to install will depend upon your environment and requirements. The components are:

1.1 JAMS Scheduler

The Scheduler is the heart of JAMS. The JAMS Scheduler manages the JAMS database and handles all scheduling and automation tasks.

The JAMS Scheduler can run jobs on the machine that it is installed on, any machine that has the JAMS Agent installed and any machine that has an rexec server.

You interact with the Scheduler by using the JAMS Client.

1.2 JAMS Client

The JAMS Client provides graphical, command-line and callable interfaces for JAMS.

1.3 JAMS Agent

The JAMS Agent runs in the background and listens for requests from a JAMS Scheduler. The JAMS Agent is available for Windows and OpenVMS.
