This document describes how to install the JAMS Agent on the Windows operating system.
The installation procedures are described step by step and are, for the
most part, self-explanatory.
3.1 Preparing to Install the JAMS Agent
The JAMS Agent is distributed on CD-ROM. After you insert the CD-ROM into your computer, a browser window will open showing installation instructions. Follow these instructions to begin the installation process.
If a browser window does not automatically open, you can use the Windows Explorer to find the SetupAgentVx.x.x.msi file on the CD-ROM. Double-click this file to begin the installation.
The JAMS Agent is also available for download over the
Internet. If you downloaded the JAMS Agent from the Internet
locate the SetupAgentVx.x.x.msi file that you downloaded and
double-click this program to begin installation.
3.1.1 Prerequisite Software
This version of the JAMS Windows Agent requires the Windows .NET Framework V1.1 or higher.
We also still support an older version of the JAMS Agent that
does not require the Windows .NET Framework. Version 4.0,
Build 160 of the JAMS Agent requires Windows NT 4.0 SP4 or
higher.
3.1.2 Installation Procedure Requirements
The installation generally takes only a few minutes, depending on the type of CD-ROM drive and your system configuration.
In order to install the JAMS Agent, you must be signed on as an Administrator.
Installation of the JAMS Agent does not require a reboot.
Installation of the JAMS Agent does not replace any system DLLs.
If you are upgrading the JAMS Agent, the current version will be stopped by the installation procedure. Make sure that there are no JAMS jobs executing when you perform the upgrade. If you are upgrading from V4.0 of the JAMS Agent, you must uninstall your current Agent before you can install V4.2 (or higher). |
The installation will present four screens which require a response:
The installation will install the "JAMS Agent" service and a
JAMS control panel application.
3.3 Error Conditions
If the installation procedure fails for any reason, a message is displayed and the installation is not performed.
